The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has criticized Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta for her extravagant celebration of Karva Chauth, prompting a sharp response from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which labeled AAP leaders as 'enemies of Sanatan Dharma.'
Gupta celebrated Karva Chauth at the Chief Minister's Public Service House, attended by numerous female leaders, central ministers, MPs, MLAs, councilors, and other prominent women.
AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj referenced the event on the social media platform X, sharing a video where he remarked, 'Rekha Gupta has celebrated Karva Chauth. She celebrated it with her husband. All women celebrate it with their husbands. What's the big deal? Is this the first time someone has celebrated Karva Chauth with their husband? Did you see the video? It's being broadcast everywhere. On one side are the husbands, and on the other, nearly a hundred security guards whose wives couldn't celebrate Karva Chauth because of them.'
Bhardwaj made these comments during a Diwali gathering for auto-rickshaw drivers on Sunday. He added, 'Look at that video; a security guard is holding her (Rekha Gupta's) Karva Chauth thali. His wife is probably watching the video, seeing him assist Rekha Gupta in her rituals, and thinking... this is the price of your vote, that Rekha Gupta celebrated Karva Chauth. Just see how much you are paying for this.'
In response, the BJP stated that AAP must be upset that the Chief Minister celebrated the festival with hundreds of women. The party posted on X, 'The enemies of Sanatan are pained to see how a woman Chief Minister in Delhi is celebrating Karva Chauth with hundreds of women at her Public Service House.'
The BJP also accused AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal of being 'anti-Hindu,' claiming that people were not allowed into his 'Sheesh Mahal.' In response, Bhardwaj shared the full video of his speech, alleging that the BJP government operates on falsehoods.
